Transforming project delivery: Avec's Strategic partnership with Makosi

Project Summary

Makosi, a global leader in on-demand audit talent, struggled with internal project delivery amidst rapid growth. Avec provided advisory services, including project prioritisation, establishing an enterprise PMO, and assessing technology. Avec’s consultants implemented a functional ePMO and provided assurance for Makosi’s core system, Luna. The result is a robust ePMO that supports Makosi’s innovation and service offerings, with Avec as a continued strategic partner.

The challenge

Makosi, the global leader in on-demand audit talent, partners with accounting teams around the world to deliver high-quality variable workforce solutions, including audit, assurance, and advisory services. Makosi has experienced significant growth over the past few years and now provides the services of in excess of 1,000 Accountants globally. As is the case with a number of rapidly growing, tech-enabled companies, Makosi was struggling with marrying excellence in internal delivery of its projects/technology and enablement functions with that which it was providing to its clients.

The solution

Avec was engaged by Makosi to deliver a number of discrete projects that provided a number of advisory services to Makosi. These included, amongst others:

  • Assessing Makosi’s current Portfolio of Projects and suggesting a more appropriate project prioritisation methodology/process.
  • Establishing an internal enterprise PMO for managing both technology and business-related projects.
  • Advising Makosi on 3rd Party project and portfolio management related technology to support its PMO.
  • Assessing Makosi’s current technology landscape including code reviews and functional sizing on its core enablement System – Luna.

Avec deployed several experienced consultants supported by Avec’s delivery frameworks and unique enablers to deliver quality advisory services to Makosi. This included the delivery of a fully functional ePMO including roles and responsibilities, a project management methodology, training, and recommendations and support for the deployment of a project and portfolio management technology.

Avec completed a deep dive analysis of the portfolio of projects which resulted in the implementation of a number of suggested changes to both the organisational and delivery model. Avec leveraged its enablers Cast Highlight and Seer to provide assurance for Makosi’s Luna application, highlighting software-related benchmarks against the NIST standard as it relates to software elegance, efficiency, and resilience. It also provided Makosi with an effort estimate, an assessment of Technology Debt and related areas of improvement and confirmed support and maintenance related effort estimates against industry benchmarks.

The ePMO continues to be an integral part of the Makosi landscape and continues to deliver innovation to support Makosi’s current and future service offering. The Avec team continues to be a strategic partner to the Makosi leadership team and continues to provide ongoing advisory services to the Makosi ePMO, project management and business analysis function, and technology teams.
