The challenge
Ampol, an ASX-listed company with a global workforce of over 8,300 employees, faced the challenge of replacing its end-of-life Point of Sale (POS) solution. After selecting a Cloud native software platform through a rigorous RFP process, the company sought to understand the ideal approach to integrate the new POS solution across its vast network of 1800 retail stores, including diverse POS hardware, a mobile app, customer loyalty program, and partner restaurant retail solutions.
The solution
Avec was engaged to review the current state, explore future state solution options, assess three different solution options, and develop a high-level solution architecture design for the recommended solution. The project also involved providing budget, effort, and resource estimations for delivering the recommended solution. Avec’s project team assessed various solution architecture options, including maintaining the status quo, exploring low-code Middleware platforms, and re-designing an existing Middleware solution. Following the assessment, Avec presented an appropriate recommendation, including a High-Level Solution Design, to Ampol’s Architecture Review Board and delivered a business case for the recommended solution, covering cost-benefit analysis such as ROI and NPV calculations.
The result
Avec’s ongoing involvement with Ampol includes providing Architecture oversight on the implementation of the recommended solution, ensuring the successful integration of the new POS solution across Ampol’s extensive retail network. This comprehensive approach has enabled Ampol to make informed decisions about the replacement of its POS solution, ensuring a seamless transition and improved operational efficiency across its retail stores.
