The challenge
The Avec team were commissioned by a state government department’s analytics team to provide data science and solution architecture services across multiple projects. The project presented several key challenges including the consolidation of diverse data sources to enable customer-360 reporting and analytics capabilities. Users of this platform include a variety of government departments, such as the building regulator, licensing, and complaints. Additionally, the client sought to implement data-driven risk ratings to enhance regulatory capabilities.
The solution
The Avec team played a pivotal role in establishing the platform, making technology choices, and migrating legacy data systems to the cloud. We piloted the use of several technologies for the first time in this state government, facilitated the implementation of data governance practices, and provided analyst training. Our contributions encompassed the development of QlikSense dashboards with new functionalities, construction and license risk models, and data quality enhancements. Furthermore, we conducted entity resolution and data linkage exercises to improve data validity and accessibility. Our work underwent review by an external party, The Gradient Institute, to ensure compliance with AI ethics principles.
The result
The integrated solution delivered a Single View Program, encompassing entities such as building sites, license holders, and businesses. This marked the first instance of the client having integrated analytics view across disparate business systems, enabling proactive regulation. While the project is ongoing, our work has significantly reduced the time taken for applications, complaints, and investigations. The tools produced to date have garnered overwhelmingly positive feedback.
